Biography

After a career in the sports leisure industry, in 1997, I embarked on the Sports Science Degree at Portsmouth. Having been a keen sportsman all my life this course seemed to fulfil my ambition of gaining a degree, experiencing University life, improving my job prospects and learning in a subject area close to my heart. I graduated in 2000 and was offered a position in the Sports Science Department. For the last 11 years I have been working alongside highly motivated and dedicated colleagues, where I specialise in coaching and exercise physiology.

Teaching Responsibilities

I lecture in a variety of subjects, specialising in coaching and exercise physiology, and have an interest in the learning and teaching process. My role is to educate, provide industry based vocational opportunities and prepare students for their future working and leisure lives. I also mentor fellow lecturers, from other departments in the University, who are new to lecturing and I can offer practical advice on the process of educating others, communicating, setting assignments, marking, etc.

Research

I have provided assistance to groups such as: GB Underwater hockey team, St Vincent-Wight cycle team and GB junior surf team. I am currently starting a project with Surflifesvaing GB and have an ongoing projects related to swimming, specifically looking at inspiratory muscle fatigue and its possible affects on stroke mechanics.
