Portsmouth City Council, Aspex Gallery, the University of Portsmouth and ES Lighting Hire Limited are sponsoring PANOPTIC, an exhibition by seven artists from the School of Art, Design and Media.
The artists are showing work that could be considered controversial and socially relevant, addressing issues that include health, obsession, education, religion, notions of space, self and other, society and the ethics of power in dynastic families, including our own Royal Family.
The participating artists include Megan Day, Des Kilfeather, Anthony Ndikanwu, Helen Pescott, Emily Percival, Emma Seymour and Kye Wilson.
Ken Devine, Principal Lecturer at the University of Portsmouth says: “Here we are presented with an array of observations and enquiries which delve into subject matter that range from the deeply personal and intimate to the macro political. In an age when personal lives as well as major political events are both as likely to be at the forefront of public debate, the title and the work embodied within it resonates in this remarkably contemporary context”.
