Profile

MA (Westminster) PhD (research by practice) (Goldsmiths)

I have taught in Further and Higher Education in the UK since 2005, previously at Goldsmiths and the University of Chester, specializing in photography. During 2009 I taught at OTIS College of Art and Design in Los Angeles, California, before joining Portsmouth in 2010.

As an artist my main area of focus is in the practice and writing of fine art photography. This has included several exhibitions both in UK and abroad, as well as artists residencies.

Current Research

My personal photographic work explores themes of memory and collective memory, whilst I seek to situate photography as an affective act within contemporary art.  Situated between theory and practice, writing is about figuring a model that incorporates contemporary debates from the field of visual arts and philosophy alongside the creative practice of making photographs.

This currently includes philosophical enquiries on time and duration with regards to the photograph taking as initial point the work of Henri Bergson. Other research interests include the late theory of Roland Barthes, especially in his series of lectures published under the title The Neutral.

She is interested in the inter-disciplinaryfields of art, philosophy and cultural studies. Main areas of expertise: fineart photography, practice-based research in fine art, philosophy and photography. She is keen to supervise Phd students inany of the above areas.
