Profile
| BA (Essex) | PGCE (Sussex) | PhD (City University London) |
I joined Portsmouth in 1993 and am currently Associate Dean of Research in the Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries. My research interests are in critical interventions in art history; philosophy and aesthetics of modernity; aesthetics and politics in British art history in the late seventies and eighties; the politics of memory as deconstructive critique; ethics, justice and injustice in aesthetic discourse. I was also involved at the early stages of Art History as a subject within Teacher Education, developing Arts and English education and equality of opportunities projects in the Secondary sector, and teaching historical and critical studies and philosophies of art in practice contexts.
I continue to teach history and theory and supervise PhD theses within areas of art and design, both historical/theoretical and by practice.
Current Research
As Associate Dean of Research for the faculty, I oversee all aspects of research and its development in CCi. I am treasurer for the Council for Higher Education in Art and Design. I am a fellow of Royal Society of Arts.
