The Masters in Sustainable Architecture students within the School of Architecture Anders Petersen, Aglaia Tsigka, Chien Ling Cheong, Bin Xia, Yuan Hou, and Aniekan Usoro supported by CURe have received a Highly Commended Award for their design proposal for the ‘Vauxhall The Missing Link Design Competition’ run by the RIBA and Vauxhall One.
Out of 100 entries from 21 countries all over the world, the students’ design scheme was praised for incorporating a variety of diverse green and environmentally responsive solutions for the existing Vauxhall public realm. In particular their innovative use of the environmental software TownScope to evaluate some of the solutions in modifying the urban microclimate of the site, cooling and reducing the impact of the Urban Heat Island effect was considered to be pioneering for an urban design
Approach.
“We are delighted that our students have achieved this award which was submitted in addition to their academic studies. In our view this competition has provided the students with an opportunity to apply the knowledge gained in the theoretical and practice discourse from the MASA programme to a live project.”
