Qualification: BSc (hons) Forensic Biology and Biochemistry
I was attracted to the University of Portsmouth because of a recommendation from a friend, its academic reputation and seaside location. The pathway I chose was forensic biology, but as I found out more about biochemistry, my interests diverged and luckily the flexibility of the course enabled me to change my pathway to Forensic Biology and Biochemistry.
For my final year project I was working in the biochemistry research lab and I thoroughly enjoyed my year and everyone in the department was very helpful and friendly. When I was offered a PhD position with Dr McGeehan and Prof. Kneale, I jumped at the chance to work in the same department. My research is looking at nucleosome assembly protein using the model organism Xenopus in the brand new European Xenopus centre facility that has recently opened in the School. I am attempting to discover more about the structure and function of this important protein.
