Title: Xenopus - King of Beasts?

Abstract: The relatively recent development of classical genetic screens in Xenopus has made them arguably the most versatile of the model organisms available to biochemists, cell and developmental biologists. These are models that are supported worldwide by the Resouce Centre at Portsmouth and the first part of the talk will summarise the history, current status and future developments of Xenopus biology. The second part will examine the function of variant histones in early Xenopus development including our current knowledge and key questions for the future.
