Environmental chemistry and water monitoring group
The main activities of the Group are focussed on the development, evaluation and optimisation of passive sampling procedures and technologies for the monitoring of trace-levels organic or inorganic and organo-metallic pollutants in water.
Passive sampling involves the deployment in-situ of devices that are capable of accumulating dissolved contaminants from the water phase over extended periods of time. Following an exposure, the samplers are retrieved and the contaminants accumulated in the receiving phase are eluted and their concentrations measured.
