Teaching

Advanced Database Concepts For Final Year Students. The unit looks at large scale organisation databases, using the Relational Database paradigm issues with transactions and concurrency control, security, scalability and database tuning are addressed. Web Based Systems and Distributed Database Systems are also discussed.

Information Systems Management For Final Year Students. The unit looks at managing the Information Technology and Information Systems for business organisations. Students learn about strategic planning, alignment of the IT Strategy to the Organisation’s Strategy. Large scale systems such as CRM and ERP are discussed. The unit addresses new concepts in IT and how they can be applied to improve business such as Mobile Workforce, Cloud Computing, NFC.

Area of interest: Analysis and Development of Information Systems for Complex environments. Methods for Improving Safety in Clinical Information Systems. Security, in particular linked to Business Information Systems, database security and Human Factors in Security.

PhD 2007. An Investigation of display methods of laboratory data in chemotherapy information systems and their effect on clinical interpretation and decision making

The PhD research was working with Portsmouth Hospitals in developing visual display methods for complex information. Other research interests include Relational Database Systems and Data Mining.
