Dental Academy

An innovative partnership has been established between the University of Portsmouth, King’s College London and the NHS to bring about the development of the Dental Academy.

The Dental Academy replaces the highly successful School of Professionals Complementary to Dentistry. We provide undergraduate courses in Dental Hygiene/Therapy and Dental Nursing and in addition dental training for 80 undergraduate King’s College London Dental Institute dental students.

Joint training for dental care professionals and undergraduate dentists will take place under the same roof in the newly expanded William Beatty Building on the University of Portsmouth’s Ravelin Park site. We will be pioneering new approaches to practice team training that focus on team working in the delivery of primary care dental services. Register as a patient here.

Our courses are delivered in purpose built clinical and academic facilities recently expanded. The building includes two clinics (44 dental treatment bays), two individual surgeries, a phantom head room, radiography suite and four radiography booths and excellent teaching rooms.

Students do not have to pay tuition fees for these programmes as they are fully funded by the NHS. Students on full-time courses are also eligible for an NHS bursary. Demand for places on the programmes are extremely high and we expect successful students to have excellent career prospects.

We also deliver CPD courses through PortDEC.
