Excellent RAE 2008 Results
Staff from the department contributed to and were submitted for the RAE in areas of Computer Science and Informatics (UoA23).
- 25% of research in computer science and informatics is rated internationally excellent (4* and 3* rated) and overall, 65% of all research is rated international.
The department will continue to build on this success. This includes academic and industrial research, and advanced technology training. The department now has the only European Space Agency (ESA) accredited training facility in the UK.
Research Area
Research activities in the department fall into the following areas:

Research in terrestrial and fixed earth-space communications is one of the longest established activity within the University. The main focus of this activity has been in radio spectrum management and optimisation, and the understanding the underlying physics of electromagnetic wave propagation.
Research in control and robotics concentrates on mobile robotics and the application of artificial intelligence to provide advanced solutions to practical problems. There are also collaborations with industrial and commercial partners.
