George Filis BSc (University of Wales, Newport), MA (Bournemouth), Ph.D. (Bournemouth)
George joined the department of Economics as a Senior Lecturer in September 2009. He teaches a wide range of modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. His main teaching interests include applied economics and financial economics.
His main research interests include macro-finance models, business cycles, energy economics and biologically inspired algorithms applied in finance and economics. He has published in a number of academic journals including the International Review of Financial Analysis, Energy Economics, Applied Financial Economics, Tourism Economics, Journal of Emerging Market Finance, International Journal of Financial Economics and Econometrics and the Journal of Money, Investment and Banking. He is member of the editorial board for the Journal of Applied Finance and Banking, Journal of Business and Economics Research, the International Business and Economic Research Journal and the Journal of Business Case Studies. He acts as an ad-hoc reviewer for a number of academic journals including the International Review of Financial Analysis, Energy Economics, Tourism Management, Journal of Emerging Market Finance and the Applied Economics. George has also presented papers in international academic conferences in UK, Greece, Croatia, Poland, Ireland and elsewhere.
He is also a member of the Centre for Economic Analysis and Policy (CEAP) which is an independent research centre located in the Department of Economics at the University of Portsmouth's Business School.
