Profile

Dr. Lixin Cheng joined the University of Portsmouth as Senior Lecturer in Petroleum Engineering in April 2011. His teaching interests include Petroleum Refinery Operations, Drilling Engineering and Petroleum Production Engineering.

Dr. Cheng obtained his Ph.D. in Thermal Energy Engineering at the State Key Laboratory of Multiphase Flow in Power Engineering of Xi'an Jiaotong University, China in 1998. He was Lecturer in Chemical Engineering at the University of Aberdeen from 02 2009 to 03 2011. He was ERCOFTAC (European Research Community on Fluids, Turbulence and Combustion) visitor of the Laboratory of Heat and Mass Transfer (LTCM) at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland in April 2010. He was Scientific Collaborator of the LTCM at EPFL from 2006 to 2009. In 2004, he was awarded an Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship and thus worked in the Institute of Process Engineering at the Leibniz University of Hanover, Germany from 2004 to 2006. He was Senior Research Fellow at the London South Bank University from 2001 to 2003, and Post-doctoral Research Fellow at the Eindhoven University of Technology, the Netherlands from 2000 to 2001.

Dr. Cheng's research interests include experimental research and modeling on two-phase flow and heat transfer, enhanced heat transfer, transport phenomena in macro- and micro-channels and systems, compact and micro heat exchangers, energy and environmental issues in chemical processes, electronic chip cooling, nanofluid two-phase flow and heat transfer, sub- and super-critical CO2 heat transfer in macro- and micro-channels, thermal systems, oil-gas-water multiphase flow technologies (fundamental research and applied research) and multiphase flow in porous media.

He has published more than 80 papers in journals and conferences, 2 book chapters and edited several books/ebooks. He is the founder and Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Microscale and Nanoscale Thermal and Fluid Transport Phenomena (IJMNTFTP) and the Editor-in-Chief of e-book series Advances in Multiphase Flow and Heat Transfer.
