Profile

Mike is leader of the Engineering Science discipline area within the School of Engineering and also leader of the Energy and Environmental Engineering Research Group. His main areas of research are design and modelling of biomass fuelled combustion plant and assessment methods for cleaner production processes.

Mike has been active in the development of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Environmental Engineering. He has lectured widely on the topic in the UK and overseas. A recent substantial award from the European Union Asia Link Programme to international partners in the UK, Malaysia, Sweden and the Philippines is aimed at the development and testing of postgraduate open learning units in the area of Sustainable Technology. A range of associated exchange visits between partners will support postgraduate student research. Mike is chair of the Faculty of Technology Ethics Committee which allows him to pursue a strong commitment to the purpose and values of Higher Education.
