Profile
Current Project
"Computer-Aided Study of Femoral-Acetabular Impingement", funded by the Faculty of Technology.
The project will focus on abnormal hip morphology known as femoral-acetabular impingement (FAI), which has been associated with acetabular labral and/or articular cartilage damage (Peters and Erikson et al, 1993; Ganz and Parvizi et la 2003) that may ultimately result in osteoarthritis of the hip.
The essential work consists of developing a finite element (FE) model based on known clinical cases of hip dysplasia (Gosvig and Jacobsen et la, 2007; Wieberg et la, 1939) in order to determine a normal joint morphology and predict conditions of operational demand. Hip simulator will be used to study the physical reality of the typical impingements under selected physiological loading conditions, and mechanical responses of the hip components will be used to validate the FE model. Anatomic data of CT scanned images of abnormal hips will also be employed for the development of the FE model.
