Profile
Current Project
"In Vitro Studies of Bone-Cement Interfacial Properties", funded by the Faculty of Technology.
The project will focus on the study of cement fixation in cemented acetabular reconstructions, using both experimental and finite element methods to develop advanced techniques in hip simulator testing and in modelling of bone-cement interface. The essential work consists of developing an environmental chamber to be used in the hip simulator and testing of implanted pelvis under physiological loading conditions; mechanical testing of bone-cement interface samples within a CT scanner and finite element modelling of bone-cement interface based on the experimental evidence. The work will be carried out in collaboration with QA hospital, DePuy CMW and the University of Southampton.
Previous Work
“Chemical and mechanical damage analyses of the neck-stem joint of retrieved titanium dual modular hip prostheses”, Master thesis defended in July 2008 at the University of Bologna (Italy).
