The School of Engineering

Our Research in Mechanical Engineering

We conduct research across a wide range of topics, from deformation, fracture and fatigue of engineering and biomedical materials to fluid flow, heat transfer, energy resources and systems. Much of the research is applied and the research groups are:

Research facilities

We have a range of research facilities in the following laboratories:

  • Biomechanics Laboratory
  • Fatigue and Fracture Laboratory
  • Impact and Vibration Laboratory
  • Manufacturing Engineering Laboratory
  • Polymer and Composite Laboratory
  • Thermofluids, Petroleum and Energy Laboratory

Excellent RAE 2008 Results

In the recent Research Assessment Exercise 2008, 45 per cent of our submission (UOA28) was rated as internationally excellent, whilst 85 per cent achieved international recognition.
