Brian Baily, Alastair Pearson, Graham Wilson and Julia Brown ran a one-day field excursion as this year's Hampshire Geographers Field Day at East Head on the 9th July. Despite the inclement weather, the 15 'A'-level teachers from Hampshire schools and colleges were given a detailed tour of East Head together with a talk from the National Trust warden. The teachers then returned to the department for an afternoon workshop on GIS for monitoring coastal change. The feedback from the day's activities was very positive and there is a strong possibility of further trips in future.

As a follow up to the above, Malcolm Bray, Brian Baily and Alastair Pearson will be joining Tauntons School of Southampton for a one-day visit to East Head followed by a GIS workshop in the afternoon. 32 pupils will be attending the event that will take place on 11th November.

Brian Baily and Alastair Pearson presented a paper entitled 'Mapping and Monitoring Coastal Change' to the High Weald GA at Tonbridge in Kent on Tuesday 14th October. Over 100 students from surrounding schools are expected.
