Research led by the University of Portsmouth, Geography Department has revealed that stone erosion of St Paul's cathedral in London is declining. The research suggests that industrial decline and cleaner energy production have led to pollution erosion at St Paul's Cathedral being at a 300-year low. The research is part of an on-going project to map the longer-term changes of the Portland Stone of St Paul's. The Portsmouth team led by Dr Ropbert Inkpen, included Dr Brian Bailyand Dr Peter Collier. The partners in the research were Professor Heather Viles from Oxford University and Dr Cherith Moses from the University of Sussex.
