Consultancy and training
The Institute of Criminal Justice Studies has an extensive track record in the provision of consultancy support, evaluative research and training services to the criminal justice sector, nationally and internationally. As well as the services offered by our two specialist Centres, the Centre for Counter Fraud and the Centre of Forensic Interviewing, ICJS offers a wide range of expert support in the fields of good governance, effective law enforcement, community safety and security, and forensic awareness. Recent or on-going projects include:
- Training in investigative and police oversight skills - Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland; Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission (Republic of Ireland). Contact Professor Steve Savage

- Programme of Visiting Lectureships, Abu Dhabi Police College (strategic management, critical incidents, crime statistics, criminal investigation). Contact Professor Steve Savage
- Training advice and accreditation services, Botswana Police Service. Contact Dr Phil Clements
- (with Surrey Police) Design and licensing of ‘Pre-join’ training programme for initial police training (‘Police, Law and Community’). Contact Mr John Jones
- Training for trainers (role play and facilitation skills) – Cyprus Police Academy. Contact Dr Phil Clements
- Workshops in witness skills and risk assessment. Contact Mr David Carson
- Training support to the Ministry of Public Security, Government of Vietnam (training design, training for trainers) - funded by the UNDP. Contact Professor Steve Savage
- Multi-agency training for the Hampshire MAPPA (Multi-Agency Public Protection). Contact Professor Mike Nash

- Forensic science awareness training for front-line law enforcement personnel. Contact Dr Paul Smith
Institute staff have also provided evidence for a number of high profile enquires including the Home Affairs Select Committee on Police Training and Recruitment and the Independent Commission on the Future of Policing in Northern Ireland. The Institute also gave evidence to the Home Affairs Select Committee on knife crime on the basis of research undertaken by Dr Bob Golding.
