Dr Phil Clements, currently an Associate Head in ICJS, will take up a new role as Head of the Institute of Criminal Justice Studies in January.

Dr Clements moved to the University of Portsmouth in 2003, following a 25-year career in the Metropolitan Police. He has authored or co-authored a number of books, including A Practical Guide to Facilitation Skills, the Diversity Training Handbook and Policing a Diverse Society, and, with Jane Creaton, was jointly responsible for the successful validation of the institute's professional doctorate (Doctor of Criminal Justice) in 2007.

He takes over from Professor Mike Nash who has performed this role very ably for a number of years and has now assumed leadership of the Community Justice Programmes in ICJS.
