NHS Security Management Professional Accreditation Board
Background
The Counter Fraud and Security Management Service (CFSMS) was launched in April 2003 with a remit encompassing the
'policy and operational responsibility.....for the management of security in the NHS'
The NHS Security Management Service (SMS) is part of the Counter Fraud and Security Management Service (CFSMS) and has overall responsibility for all policy and operational matter related to management of security within the delivery of NHS services.
The SMS is committed to the delivery of an environment for those who use or work in the NHS that is properly secure so that the highest possible standard of clinical care can be made available to the patients. SMS will seek to raise the profile and standards of security management work in a comprehensive, inclusive and professional manner working with Department of Health (DH), NHS bodies, NHS professionals, Trade Unions and other bodies such as the Health and Safety Executive.
About SM PAB
The NHS Security Management Professional Accreditation Board is the professional regulatory body for security management in the NHS. Its purpose is to ensure the delivery of professional, accredited security management training and academic study and that those who are qualified maintain their professional standards.
Role of the Board
- Responsible for the setting of high quality standards to ensure the delivery of first class professional qualifications for security management in the NHS
- Ensure the delivery of authorised, quality and effective professional, accredited security management training and academic study
- Establish and maintain the requirements for continuing professional development
- Set the rules of professional conduct for security management in the NHS
- Act in matters where Accredited Security Management Specialists (ASMS) do not continue to meet standards of professional conduct
- Actively promote accredited, professional training courses and academic qualifications for security management specialists
- Work with organisations with a common interest in the development of professional security management training and access to relevant programmes of higher education.
- To oversee the delivery of the training courses taking into account the quality and effectiveness of the courses.
- To ensure that individual course, and the portfolio of courses as a whole, is conducted so that Higher Education credits can be awarded, and that in particular a recommended credit rating is communicated to the Higher Education Institution(s).
