Visiting Research Scholars

The Institute welcomes research scholars from around the world whose work relates to the Institute's research profile and staff interests. Since 2003, the following have spent periods of time at the Institute, ranging from three months to one year.

Mr Zhao Chao, Economic Crime Investigation Department, Ministry of  Public Security of the Peoples' Republic of China. While at the Institute Mr. Chao undertook research on organised economic crime.

Mr. Je Hyun Nam, Senior Inspector, National Police Agency, Republic of Korea, undertook research on the role of the Special Constabulary in England and Wales.

Dr. Helen M. Eigenberg, Professor and Chair, Department of Criminal Justice, University of Tennessee, Chattanooga, USA. While at the Institute Dr. Eisenberg undertook research in two areas: a study of male rape in prisons; and (with Dr. Jacki Tapley) research on young people's attitudes to domestic violence and violence in relationships.

Dr. Christine Jennett, Senior Lecturer in Justice Studies and Associate Director of the Centre for Cultural Research into Risk, Charles Sturt University, Australia. Dr Jennett's research was focused on three areas: the policing of domestic violence; diverse populations and the fear of crime; and developing and facilitating criminal justice practitioner learning and research.

Mr. Yasuhiro Shirakawa, Director (Deputy Chief Constable) of Criminal Investigation Bureau, Saitama Prefecture Police, Japanese National Police Agency undertook research on investigative interviewing. Mr Shirakawa has also contributed to a research programme on Japanese policing being undertaken by Tom Ellis, Chris Lewis and the late Tom Williamson.

Dr. Amos Oyesoji Aremu, Dept. of Guidance and Counselling, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. Dr. Aremu is in receipt of a six-month Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellowship. During his time at the Institute he is working with Dr. Francis Pakes and Professor Les Johnston on a project entitled 'The effects of two psychological intervention programmes on the reduction of corruption in the Nigerian Police'.

Mr.Keun Seong Roh, Chief Officer, Chungju Probation Office, Probation and Parole Division, Minstry of Justice, Republic of Korea. During his time at the Institute Mr Roh is undertaking research on 'Electronic Monitoring with Curfew'.

Mr. Jong Ryal, Kim, Research Commissioner, Legal Research & Training Institute, Ministry of Justice, Republic of Korea. While at the Institute Mr Kim is undertaking (with Dr. Becky Milne) research on investigative interviewing.
