Profile
Adrian retired from the police service in 2007 and immediately took up his current post. He was a detective for most of the 30 years of his police career, working with various Scotland Yard departments, the Regional Crime Squad, the National Crime Squad, HM Revenue and Customs and the Serious Organised Crime Agency. That work stimulated Adrian’s research interests which are: the history and culture of the Criminal Investigation Department and the wider detective force; the theory and practice of covert policing; criminal intelligence; organised crime, and police reform.
Adrian is course leader for the forthcoming MSc in Criminal Investigation, Intelligence and Crime Science, and unit coordinator of the BSc (Hons) Criminology and Forensic Studies units: Criminal Investigation; Managing Criminal Investigations, and Forensic Photography. Additionally, he teaches units in criminology, forensic studies and research methods.
Qualifications
- 2012 – Awarded Ph.D by the London School of Economics and Political Science for a thesis that examined the influence of intelligence-led policing models on police investigative policies and practice.
- 2004 – Awarded MSc (with Merit) in Criminal Justice Policy by London School of Economics and Political Science. Also awarded the Mannheim Prize in Criminal Justice.
- 2001 – Awarded BSc (Hons) in Policing and Police Studies by the University of Portsmouth.

Supervision
Adrian supervises/has supervised postgraduate theses and dissertations on the subjects of organised crime, intelligence models, and criminal investigation. He welcomes research proposals in those areas.
