Profile

My first job in Probation was in 1980 as a Probation Ancillary (PSO equivalent) running a drop-in centre in Brighton. I qualified as a Probation Officer in 1984, having spent 2 years studying on the Master in Social Work (MSW) at Sussex University. I have worked in Court and Case Management, Resettlement, Brighton Bail Hostel, and was a facilitator for the Thames Valley Sex Offender Groupwork Programme. From 1989-90 I did a year-long job swap with a Probation Officer from Auckland, New Zealand. Throughout my career I have been interested in training and was an Accredited Practice Teacher and an Associate Tutor on the MSW until it was replaced by the DipPS. I was then a Practice Development Assessor (PDA) from 1998-2004 when I was appointed as a Regional Tutor. Since starting at the University of Portsmouth I have gained a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education at the University of Brighton.

My particular interests are sex offenders, women and offending, desistance and reflective practice.
