School of Law

Postgraduate overview

Law and non-law graduates are welcomed onto our flexible programmes which are designed to allow students to focus on their particular areas of interest. We are proud of our achievement in ensuring the employability of our students who have progressed on to a wide range of occupations in a variety of sectors.

Our strong connections with employers and professional bodies ensure that our graduates leave us with the knowledge and skills that are relevant to the needs of the industry. Students are encouraged to take part in various pro bono activities, such as working with the Citizens Advice Bureau and on the Street Law Project (which involves students under supervision giving information to groups of people who are experiencing the same type of legal issues). Furthermore, practical hands-on experience is gained from working with real clients in our Employment Law Clinic.

LLM Law

The LLM Law is designed to provide a flexible educational experience that enables law graduates, non-law graduates and lawyers to develop their specialist legal interests at postgraduate level. Law graduates can choose to take the CILEX Masters option successful completion of which provides graduates with the academic qualifications required in order to join the Institute of Legal Executives. Training as a legal executive provides a genuine alternative to becoming a solicitor or a barrister. Legal executives can be found as advocates and partners in firms of solicitors and can be appointed as judges. Read about Matthew Champ, recent graduate of our LLM Law programme.
