Joanne Atkinson LL.B.(Hons), Solicitor

Joanne gained her LL.B. at the University of Nottingham before completing the LPC at the College of Law, Chester. She qualified as a solicitor in 1999 and joined the School of Law on a permanent basis in 2011.
Career
Joanne trained as a solicitor in private practice before joining the in-house legal department of Zurich Financial Services where she advised on a wide range of issues including contract drafting, new business initiatives, regulatory compliance, consumer law, resolution of commercial disputes and intellectual property. In 2003 she was appointed Company Secretary for Zurich’s UK general insurance business, comprising some 60 companies.
Since joining the University she has taught a number of undergraduate and postgraduate units including Contract, Employment Law, Elements of Commercial and Consumer Law and Corporate Secretarial Practice and Strategy.
Joanne has previously taught at the College of Law in London.
Other
Joanne is responsible for the School of Law’s careers development programme. She co-ordinates our highly successful professional mentoring scheme as well as the annual Law Fair, regular careers clinics, guest speakers and other careers events. She seeks to use her experience of practice and links with the legal profession to inform and develop the School of Law's employability initiatives.
