Dr Matt Garrod, BA Hons (Hull); LLM (Sussex); D.Phil. (Sussex)

Matt joined the School of Law at the University of Portsmouth in December 2012 as the Unit Coordinator of Public International Law, after teaching for several years at Sussex Law School, University of Sussex. Matt has recently completed his DPhil, entitled ‘Rethinking the Protective Principle of Jurisdiction in Response to International Terrorism’.  

Research:

Matt’s primary research interests are in the areas of Public International Law and International Criminal Law, generally, and jurisdiction in international law, history of international law, international terrorism, piracy, and international and transnational crimes, more specifically.

Teaching:

In addition to teaching Public International Law, Matt is the Unit Coordinator of the LLM Global Corporate Responsibility. Matt also undertakes a range of other teaching, including English Legal System and Discrimination and Human Rights.

Matt is a contributor to the Annotated Leading Cases of International Criminal Tribunals (www.annotatedleadingcases.com).

In 2009, Matt acted Co-Rapporteur for a project funded by the European Commission on ‘European Research on Citizen Consular Assistance Regulation in Europe’ (http://www.careproject.eu/index.php).
