Anne Stoneham MA., MSc., Solicitor

Anne originally studied geography at the University of Oxford before completing her MSc at Pennsylvania State University, USA. She switched to law and qualified as a solicitor in 1980. She trained and worked in the City with Coward Chance (now Clifford Chance) for 7 years before setting up her own consultancy. She joined Portsmouth Business School in 1995. She became an accredited mediator in 2005.

Teaching Interests

Anne is the supervising solicitor with a practicing certificate responsible for the Employment Clinic, part of the School of Law’s Clinical Legal Education Programme. She is also the unit co-ordinator for the undergraduate unit, Company Law. At postgraduate level she teaches on the LLM unit of Corporate Governance: Theory, Law and Practice and will be running a new unit on Tribunal Theory and Practice as part of the LLM on Employment Law.

Knowledge transfer and the wider community

Anne has always had an interest in using her legal knowledge and skills in the interests of the wider community, particularly the voluntary sector. Within the university she is getting involved with consultancy arrangements on governance issues with other organisations and in the development of short courses.

Outside the university she is a director and trustee of UK Youth and the Acting Chair of Friends of Birzeit University, the leading Palestinian university in the West Bank. She acts as a volunteer mediator and for many years was engaged in pro-bono work for community law centres.
