After qualifying as a Solicitor in 1981, Caroline worked in private practice in the Portsmouth area for a number of years working mainly for small business in both contentious and non-contentious matters. She joined the Portsmouth Business School in 1992 as a part time member of staff at which time she continued to work part time in private practice. Caroline was appointed as a full time lecturer in 2000 and became Head of School in 2008.
Teaching and Research Interests
Caroline has taught Criminal Law for many years and has developed a keen interest in clinical legal education. As a result she has developed a number of units for the Law curriculum which allow students to learn from experience. These include working for the local Citizen’s Advice Bureau and Trading Standards. She also has an enthusiasm for blended learning and has been developing new methods of teachings legal concepts using information technology. These interests have led her to research into both the pedagogy of blended learning and also the benefits of learning from experience and the importance of reflection in the learning process.
Caroline as delivered a number of papers both within the University and externally (at the annual conference of the Association of Law Teachers, the CLEO conference and for the CAB nationally) on her research interests. She keeps up to date on developments in the legal profession through her membership pf the committee of the Hampshire Incorporated Law Society.
