Profile

Originating from the Midlands Steph qualified as a teacher and spent many years teaching English in secondary schools throughout the UK. She joined Portsmouth City Council as a Trading Standards Officer in 2002 and had several very enjoyable years ensuring that Portsmouth’s businesses complied with all the relevant legal requirements. After working as a part-time tutor at the University of Portsmouth Steph became a full-time member of the School of Law in 2008.

Teaching and Research Interests

Steph is unit co-ordinator for the undergraduate unit s European Union Law and Elements of Commercial and Consumer Law.

Steph’s research interests focus on unfair commercial practices and the enforcement of consumer law, particularly those practices which have an effect on vulnerable consumers. In a partnership project with Portsmouth City Council students studying Elements of Commercial and Consumer Law have been visiting community groups made up of elderly consumers warning them of the dangers of scam mailings and high pressure doorstep selling techniques.
