Learning at Work
Partnership Programme - How does it work?
A Partnership Programme course comprises four elements:
-
Accredited Prior Learning (APL) – allows you to receive credit for the qualifications you already have and for learning from experience at work, including in-service training courses. To claim credit for learning through experience you have to submit a portfolio of evidence matching your knowledge and skills to units in the University's Taught Units Database. This should be submitted as soon as possible after you have been accepted, to allow time for assessment before the course begins. We will provide a Prior Learning Handbook which explains how to prepare your portfolio.
The maximum APL credit you can receive is two thirds of the credit for the award.
-
Learning Management – is a credit-rated unit and is the linking thread for your studies. For this unit, you wil write a learning contract, using the Learning Management Handbook, our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and an optional one-day course at the start of your programme.
As you work through the units in your learning contract, you will deliver progress reports on the dates you have specified.
-
Work-based Learning Projects – usually make up the bulk of the learning contract. They must involve learning which is new to you to help to diversify your knowledge and experience. Ideally, they should be of value to your employer and you should be able to carry out much of the project work in normal working hours.
-
Taught Units – can be included, not just from the University of Portsmouth, but from other higher education institutions as well. They are a great way of acquiring new knowledge in a structured way. Taught units are delivered as part of the University's normal teaching provision and are not run by the Partnership Programme.
