Research Excellence - RAE2008
75% of the research in Applied Mathematics at Portsmouth was judged to be world-leading or internationally excellent in the recent Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), 2008. This 4*+3* score is the best in the UK, and is matched only by the universities of Cambridge, Durham and Oxford. The submission was based on the Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation (ICG) and on the Nonlinear and Complex Systems Group in the Department of Mathematics, covering research in galaxy formation, dark energy, quantum cosmology and the dynamics of chaotic systems.
