Profile

Dr Djamila Ouelhadj
Senior Lecturer in Operational Research

My main research interest lies at the interface of Operational Research and Computer Science. In particular, I am interested in the exploration and development of innovative Operational Research, Artificial Intelligence, and Distributed Artificial Intelligence models and methodologies for automatically producing high quality solutions to a wide range of real world combinatorial optimisation and scheduling problems. My research interests are summarised below:

  • Operational Research.
  • Combinatorial optimisation and scheduling.
  • Linear programming, integer programming, goal programming, and non linear programming.
  • Heuristics and meta-heuristics for solving combinatorial optimisation and scheduling problems: Exploration and development of heuristics, meta-heuristics, hyper-heuristics, evolutionary algorithms, and multi-objective methods to solve complex real world optimisation and scheduling problems. Examples of applications: Manufacturing, Timetabling, Grid Computing, Robotics, etc.
  • Cooperative and parallel optimisation: cooperative and parallel meta-heuristics and hyper-heuristics.
  • Intelligent decision support systems.
  • Artificial Intelligence.
  • Machine learning and reinforcement learning.
  • Multi-agent based scheduling.
  • Scheduling in manufacturing systems: job shop scheduling, flow shop scheduling, open shop scheduling, steel production scheduling.
  • Scheduling and rescheduling in the presence of uncertainties.
