Enterprise Challenge 2010

The Enterprise Challenge is a two stage competition run by the Portsmouth Centre for Enterprise (PCE), inviting all Portsmouth students to identify and develop an idea or different ideas which have commercial potential.

Programme

The Challenge is open to all registered undergraduate and postgraduate students from the University of Portsmouth. You can enter Stage One or Stage Two, or both, and you may enter as a team or by yourself. The prize pool is £5,000 for Stage One and £10,000 for Stage Two.

Your idea can be anything in the following categories:

Arts Based Enterprise

Technology Based Enterprise

Service Enterprise - includes retail, ie buying and reselling 

We strongly encourage you to develop further your academic projects with support from the Challenge team.

Enterprise Challenge and Rising Stars 2010 Entry Forms

Stage One

This stage evaluates the potential of your idea(s), whether it is a general business, design or technology idea. In Stage One, you have to fill in a form with your idea, summarising it in 2 pages, no need to write a full business plan, or show a prototype. Judges are interested in your idea itself, and they will decide whether it has business potential or not. In Stage One, you don?t have to identify the category to enter, we will do that for you.

Hand in deadline

All Stage One entries must be delivered by hand to the Challenge team before 12.00 noon on Thursday, 10th December 2009. See our contact details and a map for location of the PCE Office.

Prizes:

Stage One - 12 prizes of a total of £5,000 are allocated to the Winners (3), 3 Runner-Up and an additional Highly Commended category.

Awards Ceremony:

Stage One - 9th February 2010, University of Portsmouth, Portland Building.

Stage Two

This stage develops your idea further into a full detailed business plan with the support of free Business Planning Workshops and the assistance of dedicated staff, and you must be prepared to discuss your business plan with the judges. Judges are interested not only in your idea but the way you want to develop it, and make it become a success. They will also judge the realism of your project.

In Stage Two, you enter into distinct categories, as listed above.

If you miss the deadline for Stage Two, you can still enter your ideas into the Rising Stars category (download entry form see bottom of this page).

Prizes:

Stage Two - we have a total of £10,000 to give away for the best ideas, which is allocated between a minimum of 9 prizes (3 winners, 3 runner-ups, 2 rising stars, 1 best pitch).

Awards Ceremony:

Stage Two - Thursday, 27th May 2010 at Action Stations in the Portsmouth Historical Dockyard.

Terms and Conditions

You can participate in up to 5 entries but you are only eligible to win one prize as a lead entrant. Teams with up to 5 entrants must include at least one registered student who will be the lead entrant. Deadlines may be extended at our discretion.
