Portsmouth Centre for Enterprise (PCE)

Student Enterprise Units

Our fully accredited Enterprise Units form an essential part of the Enterprise Degree Programmes and are generally run in the University in the 2nd semester of the 2nd year of study and can be taken as core, optional or elective (check your course regulation).

You will take the Belbin psychometric test to help you identify your profile and your ideal team role in the company (management, finance, sales, marketing…) and, based on this, you will each take separate responsibilities in the running of the business.

You'll invest in the company with a small contribution of not more than £30 per person, and you'll set up the business, undertake the market research, create and deliver a product and start the running of the business.

You will be assessed (as a team and as an individual) on the following criteria:

  • Company's performance (Minimum of 50 products to create and sell)
  • Business plan (no more than 15 pages, appendices included)
  • Company report (no more than 16 pages)
  • Peer assessment forms
  • Final presentation

At the end of the semester, you will have to liquidate the company…unless of course you want to carry on…

During the whole unit, we act as business advisors, so if you have a problem of any kind, or need to find out more about something, you may book an appointment with a member of PCE staff.

We also provide supporting documents for the Student Enterprise Unit. Please note that access to these documents is restricted to students studying on one of the indicated pathways and is password protected. To obtain a password please contact the PCE.
