Key research interests
Fundamental and applied aspects of bacterial biofilms in natural environments, including medical biofilms; the role of bacteria in colitis, survival of pathogens in marine environments, biofouling, biocorrosion, biodeterioration and biodegradation including marine conservation; biochemical imaging using advanced mass spectrometry techniques; study of ionization processes in mass spectrometry to understand structure of bacterial extracellular polymers (complex organic mixtures).
Postgraduate students: currently supervised 2 PhD ; Key research grants obtained in the last 5 years include NERC, EU Thematic Programme, EU Brite-Euram Programme under Network Scheme, NHS, EU High Level Scientific Conferences Programme, as well as at least 10 research awards from different Industrial sectors and Local Authorities
