The Department of Psychology is always looking for volunteers to take part in our research studies as your help is invaluable for the successful completion of these studies. You can take part in online studies from the comfort of your own home, or come into the department and participate in research studies.

The call for participants will go out automatically if you are registered on our Study Register. If you want to participate in any of our studies, please make sure that you contact the Researcher directly. Some of the studies can be completed online.

 

Would you find it easy or difficult to decide whether someone was using another person’s photo ID?

Researchers:Dr Anne Hillstrom

Location: King Henry Building, Department of Psychology, University of Portsmouth.

Time requirement: 3 sessions in total (each session should take approximately 30 minutes) running between June - August 2013

This study is formed of 3 parts. Participants will be tested on their face matching ability before being asked to return one week later; and then again two weeks later to complete a face matching task (so you will need to attend 3 times over a one month period).

Participants will receive £15 on competition of all three sessions as a thank you for their time.

Can you spot a lying couple?

Researchers: Zarah Vernham, Charlotte Hudson and Ruben Silva

Research study: Assessing the veracity of couples

Location: King Henry Building, Department of Psychology, University of Portsmouth.

Time requirement: Approximately 25 minutes

Researchers at the Department of Psychology are recruiting for a research study in which participants will be asked to act as lie detectors and answer questions about the truthfulness of couples shown in interview video clips. Participants will receive a chocolate bar as a thank you for their time.

Exclusion Criteria: Participants must have not partaken in the ‘Mr & Mrs’ deception study.
