Profile

Background

After graduating in the summer of 2007 with a BSc (Hons) in Psychology from University College London, I proceeded to an MSc in Human Evolution and Behaviour before working full time in the e-commerce industry for 2 years. During my time at UCL I assisted in multiple research projects, including in work at the Institute of Cognitive Neurology. My work with Professor Patrick Haggard on the Rubber Hand Illusion has been published in the journal of Perception.

Research Interests

I am currently working on my PhD at the University of Portsmouth under the supervision of Professor Aldert Vrij, Dr Lorraine Hope and Dr Samantha Mann.

My PhD research is focussed on the detection of deception in interview settings. I am investigating the effect of undercover/covert interviewing on eliciting differences between truth tellers and liars, as well as looking at interviewing suspects in pairs.

Our work has highlighted numerous areas in which covert interviewing and interviewing in pairs can help highlight deception. This has implications for law enforcement, police practice and forensic organisations.

I am currently a member of the Society of Applied Research in Memory and Cognition (SARMAC).

Teaching Responsibilities

I have marked and assessed undergraduate essays and examinations on modules such as Key Ideas in Psychology and Developmental Psychology. I have also acted as a demonstrator to show students how we conduct our research in the laboratory.

Earlier this year I completed the Graduate Students Professional Development Programme qualification.
