Psychology
Profile
Background
I completed an undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of Abertay, Dundee (2010) and an MSc in Psychological Research Methods at the University of Dundee, funded by Dyslexia Action (2011). I have five years working experience as an Autism Practitioner. In this role I had the opportunity to develop, implement and teach programs and classes specifically designed for children and adults with autism spectrum conditions. Also, I volunteered as a citizen advocate for people with learning difficulties in Partners in Advocacy for four years and I am a member of the Autism Fife Learning Network and Autism Research Network. Currently, I am doing my PhD under the supervision of Dr. Beatriz López and Prof. Vasudevi Reddy, funded by Portsmouth University.
Research interests
My interests lie broadly in the neurobiology of auditory processing and how speech perception affects language development and socio-emotional behaviour in people with and without developmental conditions. My PhD research will focus on exploring the relationships among auditory detection, speech perception and language processing in individuals with autism, Asperger’s syndrome and typically developed adults, to establish whether difficulties in these areas relate to language development.
