Profile
Background
Michael Mantzios graduated from Fulton-Montgomery College (State University of New York) in 1999 earning an A.A. in Liberal Arts and Sciences. He received a B.A. in Psychology from the Empire State College (State University of New York) in 2003; a M.Sc. in Counseling Psychology from Sheffield University in 2005; and finally looking forward to a PgDip in Psychological Research Methods (expected in 2008) and his Ph.D. in Psychology (expected in 2010) from the University of Portsmouth.
Michael has volunteered as a counselor for issues related to identity crisis, homosexuality, interpersonal relationships, and alcohol abuse. Counseling techniques of interest: Person-centered and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy; while interested in: Psychoanalysis and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
Teaching Responsibilities
Michael currently teaches the Computing for Psychology course and also contributes in Practical Classes in year 1 & 2 (e.g., Biological Psychology). To finish, he is a Tutor within the Department as well as assisting with assessment and marking.
Research
Michael is working on his PhD under the supervision of Dr. Clare Wilson, Dr. Paul Morris, and Dr. Maggie Linnell.
Research interests include: Obesity, eating, weight management, body-esteem, time perspective, self-regulation, mindfulness, and self-compassion.
