Background

Michael Mantzios graduated from State University of New York (Fulton-Montgomery College) in 1999 earning an A.A. in Liberal Arts and Sciences.  He continued with a B.A. in Psychology again from the State University of New York (Empire State College) which he completed in 2004; an M.Sc. in Psychology & Counselling from Sheffield University in 2005; a PgDip in Psychological Research Methods in 2008 and a Ph.D. in Psychology (in Sep. 2012) from the University of Portsmouth.  

Michael has volunteered as a counselor in Greece for non-profit organizations and worked for a year as a counseling psychologist for the Ministry of Defense.

 

Teaching Responsibilities

Michael taught (from 2006-2009) Computing for Psychology, contributes in Practical Classes in Year 1 & 2 (e.g., Biological Psychology) and assisted with marking. He was a Tutor in the Department as well as assisted in Post-Graduate courses (e.g., Research Methods and SPSS).

 

Research

Michael is working on his PhD under the supervision of Dr. Clare Wilson, Dr. Paul Morris, and Dr. Maggie Linnell.

Research interests include: Obesity, Weight Management, Self-Regulation, Mindfulness, Self-Compassion, Construal Theory, and Empathy.
