Profile

In 2004 I graduated with a BsC (Hons) in Psychology from the University of Kent.  After gaining my undergraduate degree I studied towards an MSc in Forensic Psychology at the same university, graduating in 2005 with a Distinction. After graduating I worked as a Psychological Assistant in the Prison Service working in a category B male establishment. My role involved facilitating on the Enhanced Thinking Skills programme (ETS) and the Rolling Sex Offender Treatment programme (SOTP).  After leaving the Prison Service I gained a position as a Trainee Forensic Psychologist working for the National Probation Service. This role involved carrying out risk assessments, administering psychometrics and facilitating on the Community Domestic Violence programme (CDVP).  In 2007 I gained a position working as a Research Assistant at the Sainsbury’s Centre for Mental Health. Here I was involved in carrying out a consultation exploring the issue of delivering Offending Behaviour Programmes to offenders with mental health problems.  This work has since been published and can be found on the Sainsbury’s Centre website. In 2007 I was awarded a place on the departmental GATS Scheme in order to complete my PhD. In 2008 I returned to the Prison Service and currently work at HMP Wandsworth in London delivering the Rolling Sex Offender Treatment programme (SOTP).

Project Title

Exploring the Treatment of Low Risk Sex Offenders: the Impact of Individual Differences

Research

My research aims to investigate the effectiveness of the Rolling Sex Offender Treatment Programme which is delivered throughout the Prison Service to low risk sex offenders. By administering a range of psychometrics before and after completion of the programme it is hoped that we can identify what treatment needs the programme is currently addressing as well as those areas which are not be targeted. The research also aims to explore the mediating effects of individual’s personality pathology and attachment style on treatment effectiveness.  My Director of Studies is Dr Claire Nee, with Dr Aldert Vrij and Dr Adrian Needs as additional supervisors.
