Welcome to the Department of Strategy and Business Systems
The Department of Strategy and Business Systems offers a range of innovative business and management programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels designed to develop the knowledge, skills and values that will equip graduates for a range of career options in both the private and public sectors.
Our undergraduate programmes include European Business and International Business, both of which offer opportunities to study overseas, either studying in a foreign language or in English when abroad. Both of these courses provide a well rounded business education, with a focus on European Union and global business issues.
The Business Enterprise Development programme is a general business course with a strong focus on developing the innovation and creativity skills of students. Candidates for this course aim to be involved in business development at all levels of a company, or in a company they may themselves start up in the future. Students have an entrepreneurial outlook, and learn to think on their feet in solving business problems.
The Business Enterprise Systems programme is aimed at those who wish to combine the study of business (law, accountancy, marketing and economics) with systems (eCommerce, enterprise resource planning, database development, and systems management). Students gain experience using SAP enterprise software, allowing graduates to apply for jobs in enterprises where SAP user skills are scarce, and suitably trained graduates are highly sort after.
We offer two part-time Foundation Degree programmes, in Business and Management and Leadership and Management, enabling those at work to gain qualifications whilst in full-time employment.
Our postgraduate programmes are designed to equip managers with the skills and knowledge needed to develop both their organisations and themselves. They include the AMBA accredited Portsmouth MBA, MSc Leadership and Management (accredited by the Chartered Management Institute), MSc Business and Management, MSc Project Management (accredited by the Association for Project Management), MSc Project Management and Leadership, MSc Strategic Quality Management (accredited by the Chartered Quality Institute), MSc Risk Management and the Portsmouth Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA). There are also opportunities to achieve a PhD through research.
