Frequently Asked Questions

Below are answers to some of the most common questions asked about the European Business Programme. Many of the answers were provided by past and present EBP students.

Why is EBP more 'a way of life'?

The answer to this is difficult to explain in words. The companionship and support that you have given and received throughout the four years alters your outlook on life and gives you the confidence to fulfil your potential and welcome challenges.

Will my A or AS Level standard of language be sufficient to understand foreign lectures?

Excellent teaching is offered during the first year and you will find your competence will improve enormously once immersed in the country itself.

What A Level subjects best prepare you for this course?

Prior knowledge is only assumed in two areas: language (A Level / AS Level) and mathematics (GCSE).

Is it possible to do two separate industrial work placements?

Yes. The placement is carried out in the third of the four years of the course. The placement can either be carried out as a single 12 month placement, or two separate six month placements. Your placements can take place in any country worldwide.

Isn't it difficult living in another country?

Yes, it can be scary to start with but the shock is cushioned by your new-found friends and you learn to become more independent in a very short space of time.

Will I experience many money problems?

You should experience far fewer financial problems as an EBP student. ERASMUS grants are normally available for studying abroad, which will help reduce tuition fees still further. Also, the cost of living is often lower in the partner country than in the UK.

How do you find somewhere to live in the foreign country?

Our partners in Munster, Madrid and Caen all have halls of residence. As an alternative, it is possible to make contact with other EBP students around Europe in the search for accommodation.

Is it really hard work?

Yes!! But what do you expect for two degrees?

What career prospects are available on completion of this degree?

There are many and varied in an increasingly international workplace. Recent graduates have found employment with companies as varied as British Airways, Deutsche Bank, Marks & Spencer and Merril Lynch International. The unusual nature of the EBP course and its strong reputation significantly enhances career prospects upon graduation. Additionally, students often take up employment with the companies that provided their work placements.
