School of Creative Arts, Film and Media (SCAFM)

The School of Creative Arts, Film and Media is a vibrant, dynamic and highly regarded department located within the Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries. What we do in this School is innovative. We offer our students a lively mix of creative practice and critical understanding, ensuring that knowledge and learning is stimulating, cutting-edge and relevant to the wider world. We offer courses which not only appeal to student demand but which give our graduates the skills and aptitudes to pursue successful careers in the creative and cultural industries and beyond. Many of our students also pursue postgraduate study, from Masters to PhD.
Research in the School is exceptional and is accommodated in The Centre for Cultural and Creative Research (CCCR), which advances research across the cultural industries and creative arts. Work within CCCR applies a wide range of analytic, critical, historical perspectives to the examination of creative writing, film, media, music, television, and theatre and performance. Innovation in creative practice is fostered through practice-led research and research-led practice.
Membership of the Centre is drawn from the staff and research students located in the School of Creative Arts, Film and Media. The Centre is also currently home to the AHRC-funded Channel 4 Television and British Film Culture project.
In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, film and media researchers were entered as part of the European Studies submission made by the Centre for European and International Studies Research (CEISR) at the University. Results from the RAE awarded a quality profile which confirmed that 70% of research in CEISR was judged to be of international standing.
