Profile
| BA (Hons) (Portsmouth) | PG Dip. (Portsmouth) | PhD (Portsmouth) |
I have taught at the University of Portsmouth since 2000 on the English Literature and then on the Film Studies degree, covering a range of courses on gender issues, British Cinema, film theory, and literary adaptations.
My research has focussed on the endeavours of occupational groups such as headmistresses, doctors, nurses/VADs, artists and writers to comment on their own lives and historical period, debating the functions of photographs, silences, subjectivity and memory. My approach is interdisciplinary, employing feminist theory, historical retrieval, psychology, visual culture and memory theory.

Etherington-Wright, C. (In preparation). Re-defining heritage cinema. This monograph will explore a ‘new’ heritage cinema and offer a revisionist approach.
I am also in discussions about a project on literary adaptation from a social and cultural perspective by decade, exploring the social functions of these texts, and their cultural significance.
