Research

The School of Civil Engineering and Surveying has a broad range of research interests ranging from structural analysis through to sustainability appraisal. Much of this work directly addresses real world problems and the School has been very successful in securing funding to support this work from a range of sources including Research Councils, the Technology Strategy Board and Industrial Partners. Recent projects have involved collaboration with Astra Zeneca, BAE Systems, the Ministry of Defence, Mayer Brown Ltd and Grundon Waste Management.

Work from the School was submitted to RAE2008 in UoA 17 Earth Systems and Environmental Science and will also be submitted to REF 2014 in other Units of Assessment, such as UoA 12 Aeronautical, Mechanical, Chemical and Manufacturing Engineering.

There is a vibrant community of 15 research students in a well equipped research centre. Applications to study for a PhD in any Civil Engineering or Surveying related discipline are welcome.
