Early Years Teacher Status
We positively encourage existing practitioners and new entrants to apply for a funded Early Years Initial Teacher training place.
We are recruiting now for the September 2013 intake.
The University of Portsmouth is one of the selected providers delivering the new Early Years Teacher Programme from September 2013; those who successfully complete will become the first Early Years Teachers. The university will be delivering the programme as part of a consortium, headed by the University of Chichester and will be offering a number of funded and self funded Early Years Teacher Trainee places.
The introduction of Early Years Teachers will build on the EYPS programme to raise the status of the early years workforce. The change will give one title of ‘teacher’ across the early years and schools. Early Years teachers will be specialists in early childhood development, trained to work with babies and young children from birth to five. They will be graduate leaders responsible for organising and leading high quality practice in early years settings.
What Pathways are available?
The following Early Years Teacher Pathways are available: Graduate Practitioner Pathway (GPP); Undergraduate Practitioner Pathway (UPP); Graduate Entry Pathway (GEP); and Undergraduate Entry Pathway (UEP).
Maths, English and Science GCSE Grade A*-C or overseas equivalent are required before starting the Pathways. (For September 2013 we will accept an equivalency test for GCSE English language, Mathematics and Science in combined or single science subject from www.equivalencytesting.com)
Please note: Level 2 equivalent e.g. functional skills, do not have the same breadth or content and therefore do not meet the EYPS entry requirements. The two 'practitioner' pathways are part-time and designed for current practitioners. The two 'entry' pathways are full-time and designed for new entrants to the workforce.
