Profile

Research interest

My research interest is the applied field of geo-informatics, in particular the application of remote sensing and GIS. My present work can be summarized as: “Remote sensing for disaster risk reduction using low-cost geo-informatics for coastal regions”.

Background

Mathias is a PhD student at the School of Earth and Environmental Science at the University of Portsmouth. Before his PhD studies Mathias was working as a researcher and teaching assistant for the Remote Sensing Group at the Technical University Bergakademie Freiberg, Germany. During that time he was involved in several research and consulting projects using remote sensing to answer geomorphological questions. His main focus was on river profile analysis in Nepal and northern Switzerland and on fine-scale erosion estimation for Tibet and adjacent regions. Fieldwork experience was gained during his MSc studies in the mountainous regions of Nepal.
