Developing research into simulation in health and social care
The Centre for Simulation in Healthcare, formerly known as the Expert Centre, offers our students the opportunity to develop those practical skills necessary for working in the health-related sciences in a safe learning environment. The Centre has contemporary simulation facilities representative of current clinical equipment, and healthcare environments, which are used to support the learning of our students. These simulation facilities include:
- Two patient simulation centres (one comprising beds with human patient simulators and the other a high-fidelity patient simulator)
- A mock operating theatre
- A laboratory simulation suite
- X-ray suite including ultrasound equipment, and portable image intensifier
- 3D virtual learning system (VERT) for radiotherapy training
The Centre for Simulation in Healthcare also has strong links with other departments within the university, enabling students and staff to participate in a wide variety of curricula and research activities including the use of the Law court facilities for Social Work, and the Department for Sports and Exercise for Human Physiology studies.
